How to join in our activities

Explorer Scouts is open to anyone from the age of 14 years to 18 years.

There is a little flexibility. In special circumstances you can start a few months before your 14th birthday, and you can continue after your 18th birthday for 12 months.

There are 3 ways of joining :

If you are not a Scout, just come along to one of our meetings on Thursdays, 8pm to 10pm, Tadcaster Scout HQ. It's probably a good idea to ring up the leader first to make sure we are not meeting away from the HQ - Bill Oldroyd, 01937 836078.

If you are already a Scout approaching your 14th birthday, then come along and try some of our activities. Again get in touch with the leader - Bill Oldroyd, 01937 836078. You have a number of options as an Explorer Scout. You can join any of the Explorer Units in the Wetherby District or become a Young Leader working with the Beaver, Cub or Scout Sections.

If you are already an Explorer or Young Leader, you can take part in our activities as well as your own unit. Just come along to one of our meetings on Thursday. If you want to take part in one of our expeditions or activities then contact us by phone (Bill Oldroyd, 01937 836078) or email. To take part in some of the larger activities you will have to take part in preparatory meetings beforehand.

Some further information :

• Membership subscriptions are £75 per year
• Normally Explorer Scouts wear a uniform comprising a shirt and a scarf
• When becoming a Scout you make a Promise :

  On my Honour, I promise to do my best
  To do my duty to God and to the Queen *
  To help other people
  And to keep the Scout Law

  (* You can use some different wordings to reflect your religion and nationality, but the meaning is the same.)

• A view of this web-site will give you a good idea of our activities
• The programme and the organisation of meetings and activities are decided by the Explorer Scouts with input from the leaders
• We are normally quite laid back ... hopefully Sweet and Hip.
